This piece overall shows a fear of the new world, portraying everything as dangerous or hostile to the new people. It adds adventure, but it also adds a sense of hopelessness for the pilgrims. The natives were completely against the white man, and destroyed their chances at survival. With the risk comes the great reward of building the foundations to the future of a nation.

Dear Diary,
As a new comer to this lands, its frightening to expereince the attacks and the hardships that we endure. If we get sick, hurt, or killed... there is no way to survive, as our homeland is so far away. As we are under the wings of god though, we will lead us into prosperity and victory, but its still a scary path. Our lives are held in the hands of god, and it is his will to determine our fate.

Essential Question:
The Pilgrim's came to america to escape religious persecution, and to create a lifestyle in which they could be financialy stable while enjoying their lives. Before that is all possible, they need to cleanse their areas where they decide to live of danger, that of which is the Natives. The Pilgrims should have made mutual agreements and treaties with the natives to acheive an equilibrium, allowing both to live peacefully. After that is accomplished, it is suceeding upon the goals they original came for.

I agree with you in that the pilgrims came to escape a hardship and to face a hardship. I don't think however they were entirely concerned with their survival because of the difficulties they faced. Their priority was to escape religious persecution and find a place of peace to rest in their security of person. That to them made up for any work they felt they had to do to safeguard their freedom.
